I hear a lot from clients that they're so much more active in the summer with outdoor activities. And to that, I say πŸ₯³ YAAAAAY for being active BUT don't let your strength training fall by the wayside. πŸ’ͺ

Lifting weights plays an enormous role in keeping our bones strong as we age and you don't want to be that old lady from the commercial who'd fallen and couldn't get up, right??? (Tell me you're a 90's kid without telling me you're a 90's kid! πŸ˜‚)

🀐 Secret alert: I don't love being in a bathing suit. πŸ‘™ Being a personal trainer is not a magic wand πŸͺ„ that makes all self-consciousness and body issues go away. (I WISH!!!!!!!!)

But I've been spending so much time in the pool this summer ANYWAY because it's hot 🌑️, I love being in any body of water πŸ–οΈ, and I don't want to live my life from the sidelines watching everyone else have fun and wishing I could be as carefree as them. 🌞

I used to do that. πŸ‘€ Watch people and wonder how they managed to not be crippled with anxiety and fear and negative thoughts. 🧠 What I've learned over the years is that nearly everyone has some of these things, they just don't let it hold them back. They do the thing anyway. And I can tell you from the other side, that version is a lot more fun!

I've decided that I care more about spending time with my people πŸ’–, having fun and making memories 🌈, than I care about whatever judgements people may or may not have about my body. What anyone else thinks of me is none of my business. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ I can only impact what I think of myself. And when I'm focusing on being present in the moment, engaging with the people around me, and frolicking with pool floaties πŸ¦©πŸ¦„ like I'm a kid again (way back before self-consciousness set in), there's no room in my brain for negative self-thoughts.

So here's me, encouraging you to do the thing. If you're not getting in a bathing suit or refusing to wear shorts or tank tops when it's blazing outside, I hope you'll test out my advice. 🩱 Care more about fun and comfort than about how your body looks to you or others. You only get one body and one life, and if you're still alive and kicking then your body is taking care of you the best that she can. πŸ€Έβ€β™€οΈ Take care of her back, and let her feel the air, see the sun, and have some fun!
